Claude Account Banned? How to Appeal and Request a Refund
Anthropic's official appeal form, refund rules and what to prepare, in one place. Outcomes are decided by Anthropic. Last checked: 2026-11-06.
Last checked: 2026-11-06. This article only covers the channels and rules Anthropic has made public. Appeal and refund outcomes are decided by Anthropic (or by Apple or Google if you paid through their app stores), and policies change, so always follow the latest version of the official pages.
First, figure out which situation you're in
What you see after logging in to claude.ai determines what to do:
- Your account is disabled or banned: you can appeal; see the next section.
- An organization you belong to is on hold: your own account is fine, but a team (organization) you're in was paused because of unusual activity. The restricted-account screen lists each organization on hold; click "Request a review" next to it.
- You received a warning: your account still works, but you were told your prompts may violate the Usage Policy.
- You're asked to verify your identity: this is an official verification step. You'll need a valid, physical, government-issued photo ID and a phone with a camera. Follow the on-screen steps.
How to appeal
The appeal process described in Anthropic's help center:
- Log in to claude.ai with the banned account.
- Open the appeal form linked from the official page: claude.ai/restricted. You must be logged in to open it.
- Fill it in and submit. Anthropic's Safeguards team will look into it further.
The official page currently notes that response times are longer than usual because of higher email volume, so expect to wait.
What to prepare
Anthropic doesn't list required documents. These are our suggestions:
- The email address you signed up with.
- A short description of what you use Claude for and where you use it.
- Why you believe the ban is a mistake, with rough dates: for example, how soon after signing up or paying the problem appeared, and whether you'd received any warnings.
- If you paid, keep your payment records; they may help with a refund request later.
Tips for writing the appeal
- Be truthful. Don't make anything up.
- Say everything in one go and don't resubmit repeatedly. Anthropic's support guidance also notes that opening duplicate requests for the same issue usually slows things down.
- Never give your login details to third parties offering to "appeal for you" or "guaranteed unbans". They can't guarantee anything, and you risk losing the account entirely.
About creating a new account
According to Anthropic, if an account was disabled for Usage Policy violations, its email address can't be used to create a new account, no matter how long you wait.
You can still export your data or delete the account
According to Anthropic, Free, Pro, Max and Ultra accounts banned for Usage Policy violations can still log in to claude.ai to export data or delete the account themselves. The options appear on the same screen as the appeal form, with no need to contact Anthropic. What you can export may be limited, though.
If you received a warning
If you think a warning was issued by mistake, Anthropic asks you to email [email protected] with the details of your situation and your account information.
Refunds: know the official rules first
From Anthropic's Consumer Terms and help center:
- General rule: except where the Terms say otherwise or the law requires, payments are non-refundable.
- Access terminated for violating the Terms: under the Terms, you're not entitled to a refund of your subscription.
- Anthropic ends your subscription for another reason: if you bought it on the website, you get a prorated refund for the remaining period.
- EEA and UK customers: you can request a refund within 14 days of purchase, prorated by use; the option may be available in your Settings.
- Residents of Brazil, Mexico, South Korea and Taiwan: the Terms give you the right to cancel within 7 days of subscribing without giving a reason; if you used the service during that time, Anthropic may keep a proportional amount.
- Payments under a bank dispute: Anthropic can't process a refund while a dispute is pending. You can keep working with your bank, or withdraw the dispute so Anthropic can process a refund.
How to request a refund
Bought on the web or desktop app
The official steps:
- Log in and click your name or initials in the lower left corner.
- Choose "Get help" to open the support messenger on the right.
- Click "Send us a message", then "Accept", then "Claude Refund Request".
- Pick your refund reason and follow the prompts to check eligibility.
- If eligible, continue in the messenger to cancel and refund your plan.
If you can't log in to the account you want a refund for (for example, you've lost access to the sign-up email), Anthropic asks you to contact Support from another email address, cc the email tied to the account, and ask to cancel the plan and get a refund.
The help center doesn't describe a separate refund route for banned accounts; the above is the general process.
Bought on iPhone or iPad through the App Store
Apple took the payment, so only Apple can refund it; Anthropic's support team can't:
- Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple Account you used to subscribe.
- Click "I'd like to", then choose "Request a refund".
- Pick a reason, select your Claude subscription and submit.
Apple will review it and let you know. Note that requesting a refund doesn't cancel the subscription; cancel it separately to avoid the next charge.
Bought on Android through Google Play
- Active subscription: contact Anthropic Support, who will check your eligibility first. Include all the relevant details in your first message.
- Inactive subscription: contact Support with your Google Play account email, or the order number starting with "GPA." from your Google Play receipt.
Don't forget to cancel
- Web or desktop: Settings > Billing > Cancel.
- iPhone or Android app: tap your initials in the top right > Billing > Manage subscription. If you've deleted the app, cancel through Apple's or Google's subscription settings.
- Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid the next charge. Under the Terms, cancelling doesn't refund the current period.
The official pages don't say whether billing stops automatically after a ban, so keep an eye on your bank statements. If you're still being charged, explain the situation through the official support channel above.
